To assist in the funding of the new pitch development on lands recently acquired, Glyde Rangers GFC are holding a massive fundraiser on 30th September in the Ardee Parish Centre.
The Club has grown considerably in the last few years due to the expansion of both Juvenile and Ladies Football teams and the new Development will be used for an extra pitch, training facilities and community amenities. The Club are asking for big help to achieve this and this event is just one of many the Club will be running.

Glyde Rangers GFC are pleased to announce a massive new Development for the Club.

Picture

The Club have just acquired new land to the rear and side of existing pitch. In recent years the number of teams fielded by Glyde Rangers has increased substantially at Juveniles and Ladies Football.

This has put enormous pressure on our single pitch and this development will allow for extra training facilities and Juvenile pitches. Also, in line with the Clubs' 5 year Plan, there will be Community amenities incorporated. A walkway around the entire site will be developed and the Club will be consulting with the local Community to see what else should be introduced.
The Club only survives on the goodwill and support of the local Community and would like to thank everyone who does so. With this new Development they will be looking for assistance to complete the project and look forward to everybody getting involved to do so.

Glyde Rangers, under new Manager Mark Gilsenan, kicked off the Louth 2017 Club Football season with a handsome win over St Nicholas on a very cold evening in Darver. Playing a more attacking brand of football than recent years, The 3 Glyde full forwards kicked 3-8 between them.
The Nicks got the first score of the game early on, but once Glyde got into the play, they started steadily building a lead. When Lar O'Brien lobbed a ball over the unfortunate Nicks keeper in the 20th minute from 30 metres, all pretence of a competitive game was over. Lar's brother, Trevor, added a second goal just before half time and Brian Duffy shot a 3rd off the post in the 2nd half to bring his personal tally to 1-5.
Fiachra Sheridan and Cein Sheridan excelled in defence while Alan Brennan and Aaron Devlin also contributed to Glydes score line as Midfield dominance from Ciaran Sheridan and Barry Sharkey set up Glyde for a 17 point win.

Glyde maintained their winning start to the season on a warm Spring morning in Omeath and have set up a winner takes all encounter with Naomh Malachi in 2 weeks.

Glyde started the match strongly, playing a 2 man full forward line of Brian Duffy and Martin Bob McArdle and were 1-4 up before Cuchullainn registered their first score after 12 minutes. Mark O'Brien, named at Full Forward, but playing around the middle, opened the scoring with a well taken point following a straight run through the middle after only 1 minute and Glyde added more through Duffy, off both his right and left feet. Duffy then won a long ball and laid it off to McArdle who slotted it home into the corner in the 7th minute.

The match as a competitive contest was realistically over already, although Cuchullainn didn't help their cause by shooting 7 wides overall.
David Devanney and Cein Sheridan owned the midfield and with The Glyde defence attacking whenever they could on the tight pitch through Peter Duffy, Conor McCullagh and JP Boyle, it was only a matter of time before more goals followed. 2 duly arrived in the 2nd half, the first set up by an impressive Philip McGahon who caught a Cuchullainn kick out and claimed the mark, before sending in a lovely long ball to Dion Conlon to hammer home. Brian Duffy added a third shortly after, before being substituted as Glyde emptied their bench.
Ciaran Sheridan kicked 0-6 from Center Forward, including 2 delicious long range efforts before half time to cap another strong performance.

Glyde(subs in brackets)
Zack Sharkey, Niall Bird, Gerard Farrell, Peter Duffy(Jason Dullaghan), Conor McCullagh, Philip McGahon, JP Boyle, Cein Sheridan(Alan Brennan), David Devanney, Conor Sheridan(Robbie McHugh), Ciaran Sheridan 0-6(4 frees), Dion Conlon 1-3, Brian Duffy 1-5(1free)(Gavin Duffy), Mark O'Brien 0-1(Stephen Sharkey), Martin McArdle 1-0(John Myles 0-1).

On a cold evening in Tallanstown Glyde and Roche served up a cracker to warm the spectators. At a pace more akin to July Championship fare the 2 sides went toe to toe with Roche's corner forward, Barry O'Hare, showing he had ice in his veins to convert a 35 metre free with the last kick of the game to level the match.

Glyde will probably be the more upset with the result as they dominated midfield through David Devanney and Ciaran Sheridan but some wayward shooting cost them the game. It took 5 minutes before the first score of the game came from the foot of Trevor O'Brien after Glyde had kicked 5 wides beforehand. Roche however scored their first goal 4 minutes later through Kevin Callaghan following a blistering run. O'Hare added a 2nd 3 minutes later following a mix up in the Glyde defence. Glyde however stuck to their task and their dominance in the possession stakes gave them their own 2 goal blitz in the 23rd and 24th minute from O'Brien and Aaron Devlin.

O'Brien added his second and Glydes 3rd just before half time, latching on to a sweet long pass from Conor Sheridan to leave Glyde ahead by 3-5 to 2-4 at half time.

Scores were hard to come by in the second half as the tackling and the intensity reached fever pitch from both teams. Roche were however picking off their score from what limited attacks they had and with O'Hare and Callaghan both pitching in with frees they hauled back Glyde. Roche Centre Forward, Enda Murphy was handed a black card for a rash challenge on Conor Sheridan and despite losing their talented playmaker, they continued to build and Niall McArdle found the net to put Roche ahead by 2 points.

Every challenge was now a massive contest but Roches cause was not helped when sub Ciaran Savage talked himself into a red card from ref Kevin Levins despite repeated warnings. Glyde finally found some space and when Conor Sheridan was dragged down in the square, Ciaran Sheridan stepped up to convert the penalty and put Glyde ahead by 2 points with 5 minutes left.
Glyde tried to finish off the game but were constantly thwarted by a solid Roche defence led by Harry O'Connell and in the end it came down to 2 converted frees from O'Hare to level the game. There were some fine displays on both sides with Glydes Niall Sharkey and Mark O'Brien and Roches Robert Mackin and Cathay Byrne impressing.

Santa has just notified Glyde Rangers that he wants to visit the newly refurbished Glyde Community Hall.

However, as he is so busy this time of year, he can only come by helicopter. So, the Big Man will fly into Tallanstown on Sunday 11th December at 12.30pm. All welcome.

A really important announcement on behalf of Glyde Rangers GFC.

Some of you may have noticed the New Defibrillator on the wall outside Smyths Spar in recent days. Glyde Rangers GFC decided earlier this year that one way they could help the community was to purchase a 2nd unit to be placed in the Village with easy accessibility. And so the Club purchased this defibrillator & box unit and with the generous permission of Andrew Smyth it has been placed in this prominent position. Many thanks are also due to Tommy Neary and Stephen Whelan for fitting it.
Hopefully, it will never have to used, but in an emergency all you have to do is get the lock code from either the shop or pub or alternatively dial 999 and the code will be given to you and the emergency services can also guide you through its use. Pictured is members of the committee with John Brennan who was on hand to accept the device on behalf of the Community. John, who knows all too well the importance of these machines, has made the point that more people need to be trained on using defibrillators and the club will be facilitating training courses for this in new year.
The club are using funds generated throughout the year to improve the facilities in the Club but this, it was felt, was an appropriate way of giving something back to the community that support us.

U12 team(Balie Talun) Win the league

All roads led to Darver on sat last for the u12 League Final Baile Talun vs Cuculainn Gaels. Game started well with Jack McKeever and Matthew Kane getting a foothold in the middle assisted by Aj  Finlay and Daniel Murray our backs were tight all game not giving their opponents an inch. Dan Kelly and Kiilian Daly were exceptional and once the ball got to the forwards the speed and accuracy of Oisin Lynch, Tadhg Kellet and Sean Devanney was exemplary. The Gaels had no answer to the introduction of Darren Mc Keever in the 1st half which made a great difference to the team, he was well assisted by team captain Lee Finnegan and Jamie McCourt to name a but a few whilst Oran Mathews was defiant in the goals .The teams' great effort was continually strengthened by the subs James Cahill , Cian Kennedy, Oisin Kelly, Conor Smyth  who weaved in and out when called upon to lead the team to victory. They  held on to claim the cup by 6 points in the end and it was an exciting game till the final whistle blew.  Great celebrations followed in AppleGreen and then the victory lap around the village .

Double Win for U14

In an historic first, the Glyde/Western under 14 girls completed the double by winning the A Championship adding the title to the League Division 1 they won earlier in the year.

They beat Cooley by 0-8 to 1-4 in a tense nail-biting finish in Stabannon last Saturday 27th August.
Future is bright for Ladies football in the parish.

Glyde Rangers Dinner Dance

Glyde Rangers Dinner Dance, folks; this is how we roll.  The ethos is pretty simple to gather: Award, Honor after quality food and quality music with a Glyde twist; but seriously the detail required to make a night like this work is something special.

How exactly did we create a setting of honour, to sit down and eat a good quality dinner, but also vibrant enough to have a proper party? Well this was thanks to every member at Glyde Rangers GFC. Thank you all. We hope you had a great night. Roll on the next one!
