Glyde 2-11 Roche 1-7

Glyde Rangers have qualified for the 2017 Junior Championship Final after a comprehensive victory over Roche Emmets in Haggardstown. With a very strong wind hampering quality football being played, Glyde out fought and out thought the only team to hold them to a draw this year.

Playing with the wind in the first half Glyde took an early lead from Full forward Brian Duffy after only a minute. They struggled to score however in the opening half as the wind swirled and caused havoc with everyone's accuracy.

Gavin Duffy added a second after 6 minutes after Roche had equalised and added further points from Mark O'Brien, Aaron Devlin, Dion Conlon and 2 from Trevor O'Brien to leave the score 0-7 to 0-2 at half time. With such a strong wind, Glyde might have hoped for more but their brilliant second half performance was the real key.

Roche started the second half with venom but seemed unable to convert. Cein Sheridan was like a rock in full back but it was the Veteran goalie filling in, Anthony Nulty, who really brought it together. During a massive goal mouth scramble after 6 minutes, Nulty saved a wicked shot and then had the presence to get straight up and flick the ball out to Conor McCullough. Glyde broke straight up the pitch and Niall Sharkey tore the Roche defence with a trademark burst and laid it off for Gavin Duffy to blast home. Dion Conlon added a second goal 3 minutes later following another Sharkey run and good work by Gavin Duffy to find Conlon. The game seems as good as won at this stage but a second yellow for Mark O'Brien 4 minutes later meant Glyde couldn't be too comfortable. Gavin Duffy now filled the gap in defence and with Conor Sheridan tracking back to great effect from the no 11 position, Glyde sorted themselves out and kept Roche at bay.

With Trevor adding 3 lovely second half free kicks and Ciaran Sheridan landing a monster free kick, they had enough to tick the score board over and had the presence to maintain possession and not let Roche back in. Even when Fiachra Sheridan pulled his man down after 23 minutes and Barry O'Hare netted the resultant penalty, Glyde still held their nerve as Gerard Farrell and Aaron Devlin helped shore up a determined defence.

A Championship decider awaits against either Dunleer or Glen Emmets, who drew earlier, in 2 weeks and a near perfect season is looking a very real possibility.
