Tallanstown 27th June 2017

Glyde Rangers 0-15 Sean's 2-4

In a tough local derby Glyde continued their unbeaten year so far with a 5 point victory over the Sean McDermott's.
The football may not have been of the highest quality, and in truth the result was never seriously in doubt, but there were some hard hits to leave both sets of players knowing they had been in a game.

Glyde had settled relatively well and had taken a few scores, primarily by Trevor O'Brien and were 5 points to 1 up after 20 minutes. They should have probably being more ahead but a persistence with the long ball on top of Full Forward Brian Duffy was not paying off and when Kevin Mahon slotted home Sean's first goal on the 20 minute mark, it looked like we could have a game. Barry Sharkey responded immediately with a superbly taken point for Glyde but then a long ball in from midfield freed up Mahon again who was dragged to the ground by Fiachra Sheridan and a penalty was duly awarded. Tony Kelly smacked home the penalty into the top left corner giving Glyde goalie, David Brennan, no hope.

That was as good as it got for Sean's however as they only scored another 3 points for the rest of the game. Glyde were completely dominant up the middle of the field through the 3 Sheridans, Cein, Conor and Ciaran and when linking up with the ever excellent Niall Sharkey, Gavin Duffy and Alan Brennan they shredded the Sean's defence at times. The Glyde goal never came however, but between Brian Duffy's 4 points and Trevor O'Briens 5, Glyde did just about enough to keep their noses in front throughout the game.

An injury in the first half to Mark O'Brien mattered little in this contest, but with David Devanney also not playing due to injury, tonight's hard knocks could yet pay a price later on in the competition. With Roche only tripping over the line against the Westerns, the Division 3 League is still up for grabs.

Glyde 2-17 St Kevin's 4-08

Glyde survived a late scare following 2 late penalties but Trevor O'Brien scored five 2nd half points to edge them into a Kevin Mullen Shield Final date with Roche Emmets.

In the opening quarter, Kevin's fast paced half Forward line was causing all sorts of problems for the Glyde defence and this was underlined after eight minutes when Cian Callan scored the first of his three goals to open up a margin on the home side. However injuries in their Forward line saw the withdrawal of both Karl Maher and Lee Crosbie after only 12 and 16 minutes respectively and corresponded with Glydes midfield pairing of David Devanney and Ciaran Sheridan taking a hold of the game.

Glyde scored 4 unanswered points before Sheridan finished off a long run from midfield to crack home a shot into the left hand corner to put them ahead by 4 points. Kevin's tried to respond and scored 2 points of their own before the excellent Gavin Duffy in the corner for Glyde, hit a long range point to leave Glyde ahead by 3 at half time. It was to be Duffy's last action as he retired injured at half time to be replaced by Barry Sharkey.

Kevins responded quickly after the break with another Callan goal but Glyde again took to the task and replied with 1-2 in the next 2 minutes, Niall Sharkey fisting into the net from a long punt by Trevor O'Brien. O'Brien was growing in influence and cracked over 2 points and all seemed lost for Kevins. Then from nowhere after 12 minutes, Kevin's won a penalty for an innocuous challenge on Callan and he duly stepped up to take the kick. Glyde goalie, David Brennan, got down well to save.

Glyde went up the pitch and Barry Sharkey pointed. O'Brien followed with 3 unanswered points went the impossible began to be possible.

First Callan scored a goal dispite the best efforts of David Brennan with 5 minutes left. Then Kevin's were awarded another penalty following a foul on Seanie Crosbie. Again Brennan saved, but this time Patrick Clarke followed up and scored a goal on the rebound. Paul Duffy added a point a minute later to leave the Kevin's only one point behind heading into injury time. However Glydes Dion Conlon kept his cool and slotted over two points to give Glyde a three point cushion at the final whistle.
